Is that such a difficult question? Pretty simple, really.
More opportunity for minority athletes.

The big, strong, fast white guys are still around, but now they are matched against better athletes who were playing for Grambling in the past and now are playing at Alabama. In a state like Utah, very few star high school running backs or WR’s are going to be Stars at the next level.

In Pop Warner and middle school, the kids who are faster and stronger excel. That has always been the case, except that now, suburban Pop Warner leagues get minority kids who compete against the white kids. As middle and high schools “officially” desegregated there was head to head competion.

Racist stereotypes are fading away. Remember when black kids were, supposedly, not smart enough to play QB or Center? Certain positions were kept white. Well, guess what, BYU’s only all american this year is a black Center.

Basketball? Even a better example. The majority of drafted white players are tall European guys given the opportunity to climb the economic ladder.

Track and field? Pole vault and shotput are the white events these days.

Baseball is an interesting case. We all know about the racist history of Major League baseball, but, American black athletes have not dominated like football and basketball for various reasons.

Typically, inner city high schools do not have big baseball programs like suburban schools. Pony and Little leagues are suburban entities. Colleges do not hand out baseball full ride scholarships like football and basketball and the idea of playing in the minors, for years, is not as attractive. Caribbean players have filled the void with a large percentage of baseball’s star players.
