If they offered to keep him on as QB coach, and he turned it down,
why would they still have to pay him? He was only relieved of OC duties, he wasn't fired. He doesn't just get to walk off into the sunset and collect a paycheck if they decide to keep him, does he?
Now, if he doesn't want to be here, I'm sure they'd negotiate a buyout, but I can't see where BYU would have to honor the entire contract if Grimes wanted him to stay on and he chose not to.

I still think Detmer would be an awesome QB coach. Very different than OC. John Beck might be a very good QBC too.
