I hear this. I thought this. Then I remembered.
Caleb Lohner started at BYU. He would have started THIS YEAR at BYU. He was an afterthought at Baylor.

So let's take the list:
Trevin Knell--no way does he start for any team in the conference. Streaky shooter. Does almost nothing else well enough to matter.
Noah Waterman--seventh, maybe 8th man, off the bench, but not a reliable shooter and plays poor defense and doesn't rebound.
Fouss Traore--too short to compete as a consistent low-post scorer, has no range, modest shot-blocker, solid defense. Backup center.
Ally Khalifa--hard to know about the knee. Inconsistent shooter. No hops (see the knee). Plays average defense, no foot speed, doesn't rebound. Outstanding passer, glue guy. Will make a roster and will not play. Will still be the most popular guy on the team.
Jax Robinson--good shooter, good handle, long, plays defense, can rebound. He'll play. 6th man, probably, might start.
Dallin Hall--decent handle, good eye for a pass, relentless competitor, average shooter from 3, no midrange, no pullup, struggles to create his own shot, plays solid but unspectacular defense, rebounds very well for a guard. Useful backup point guard.

And on down the list. Really, I mean REALLY take a close look at this team. It punched WAAAAAY above its weight. It was far, far more than the sum of its parts (credit goes to Pope for that, I think). The same group of guys struggled to finish 4th in the WCC a year before.

The only player on the current roster that would start in this conference is Jax, and he was probably gone anyway.

You can shout "BUT COLLIN CHANDLER!" all you want, but until the guy makes a shot on a D1 team, as far as I'm concerned, he's still a missionary. Post-mission ballplayers are an enormous crapshoot. And Pope wasn't the guy that recruited him--Burgess was.

We'll have ballplayers. I promise you. It might not be these guys, but it might be, too. And there will be others that want to play here.
