Are upset because they imbued upon him their feelings about BYU. He never felt that way about BYU. He was in it to win and did pretty well there, by BYU’s historical standards. He left because BYU could not provide him the chance to win at the level he is driven to win at. Anyone familiar with his past ought to have known that Mark Pope wants to win first and foremost.
The only part that bothers me is I am prone to believe whoever BYU gets as its next HC will not win as much as I think Pope would have won had he stayed at BYU. But I also think BYU will be OK.
