A week ago, the Popes were undeniably popular and beloved in Utah (Yes, I include Lee Anne because she was involved with the program and never shied away from the spotlight).
Crazy how they allowed their reputation to crumble like they did. All they needed to do was show grace/gratitude—do it right—and they’d forever be appreciated and considered to be part of the BYU family.
Instead, they ghosted the community and opened the door for a humble/qualified couple, the Youngs, to step in and draw an enormous contrast. It just makes the Popes look that much worse.
Was it not worth a few minutes of their time to do things the right way and to preserve their legacy/reputation?
So weird to me, but then again, I fully admit that my reputation is important to me.
