I had a sit-down with my doc today to go over my annual physical blood panel and general health. I've worked very hard over the last several years to make improvements and overall I am much healthier now than 5 years ago....I've lost a bunch of weight, in much better shape, lipids all look much better, etc...
But I can't seem to budge my A1c which hovers around 5.7 to 5.9 regardless of what I do. About 9 months ago I started wearing a continuous glucose monitor to see if that would help me get to the bottom of it. According to my CGM data, I do a pretty good job with blood glucose control. Over that time period my average glucose has been sitting around 96-99 mg/dl which should correlate to a A1c of around 5.0. And glucose variability of around 12%. These are numbers I should be pleased with, so why the high A1c?
My doc wants to chalk it up to weird genetics and wants me to try Metformin for a few months. I don't suppose that will hurt, but I'm wondering if any of you have encountered this situation and might be able to shed some light on the matter???
