Pope thought he was good enough to recruit, offer & sign. Whether you like Pope
or not, we know enough about him to trust he was a pretty solid recruiter. It's pretty jolting that Pope—now at the highest level of college hoops —thought Davis was a good enough player/fit to sign at BYU, and the new unproven coach apparently doesn't think so.

Right now, we don't have that same experience/confidence/history with Kevin Young since he is a completely unproven recruiter/talent evaluator. We certainly hope he will be great but we have no history with him.

Say Utah State lost their coach to Duke and the new Utah State coach came in and cut loose a guy who had just signed by the outgoing coach who had been successful? We'd probably be looking at it as non-USU fans and saying "what the heck is the new guy doing?"

Maybe Davis is not a good fit for the scheme KY wants to run, and he was a good fit for Popes system. But in the absence of any history with Young its certainly justifiable to have some people questioning it. (and we might also say that there is a new void right now since BYU is not making any roster or coaching announcements)
