My op wasn't saying I "would" retire, but that I could, especially as my current
target is "only" $1.5 million. It was responding to the original OP that was asking if $4 million was "a decent amount".

I only spend ~$40-50k per year now, so having a fund that would generate the equivalent of $80k in today's dollars for the rest of my life, would be wonderful. (the 4% rule accounts for inflation)

Why work 5,8,10 more years, when I could "retire" and do whatever i want for those 5-10 years and beyond instead
