This is exactly the answer. The speed with which news moves is instantaneous. And nothing affects people more than bad
news. People in the media and the ones looking for engagement on social media know this and use it for their gain.

I am not that old but in my teen years we learned about bad world events IF we watched the news at 5 or 10 with our parents or we caught the 5 min condensed version on channel 1 news in school. We didn't deal with bad news all day everyday constantly on our phones. I am not a scientist but I would wager that constantly seeing and dealing with bad news and drama etc. all day everyday would add to anxiety.
