I was eating about 1800 calories a day but 200 g was protein and I lifted weight
I didn’t lose any muscle mass. Got dexa scans to prove it. My point is you can be in an extreme deficit but with adequate protein intake and strength training muscle loss will be eliminated or extremely minimal.
