I have a DIL that seems to want her kids to be diagnosed on the spectrum so they
can get money from the state.

That's an interesting phenomenon and one I'm not totally comfortable with.

I worked with a guy that had a clinically diagnosed autistic son. He wasn't as bad as many cases I've heard, but the State gave him a really good monthly stipend because of that diagnosis.
