RE: I have some trustworthy inside info
I fully believe that it was Anae in favor of Heaps, and Doman in favor of Riley, at the beginning of the season. Almost everyone has forgotten some very telling quotes from early in the year. For example, after the Florida State game, Doman made a comment in reply to suggestions that RIley didn't have a big enough arm and shouldn't be playing. Doman said something to the effect that at that point in the season Riley was one of the very few guys making any plays at all, and that to remove one of the very few playmakers from the offense didn't make much sense. Another quote happened just a week or two later after a game when Jake launched a ton of passes. Doman was critical of asking Jake to carry that kind of load. Doman didn't think that was the proper way to best prepare Jake for future success. Jake is the prized recruit, someone Doman worked very hard to bring to BYU, and Doman has very firm ideas of how to best develop that talent. Also, everyone seems to be ignoring two seemingly conflicting pieces of info - one, that after the Utah St. game, Doman reportedly became more involved in game planning, and two, that at that same time the passing game was drastically de-emphasized in favor of a power running game. The simplest explanation is that it was Doman that wanted to take things slower with Jake. It was smart coaching (trying to make up for some awful decisions made in the offseason and fall with respect to the two QB experiment), and it's already paying off big-time.

Anae may be on his way out, but it's not because he backed Nelson over Heaps or because he pushed a two QB system. Those are not the facts. I think the simplest explanation is that Doman is a rising star, and room needs to be made for him to advance up the coaching ladder.

Do not let your heart be troubled. Doman loves Heaps. That doesn't mean that Doman can't also really like Riley. I don't believe for a second that Doman believes that Riley should start over Heaps at this point in time, though. I could certainly see Doman, as OC, finding a way to work Riley into the offense to take advantage of some of the things he does well. No way he starts over Heaps, though.
