Who said it was all about academics. Not me. I said being
a research school played a part in why Utah was a better fit, but never said that was the reason for inclusion over BYU.
I think Utah having the better football program the past decade, getting better ESPN bowl ratings, and having double the national titles in all sports than BYU are all factors. Combine that with Utah being a better cultural fit than BYU , and it was a no brainer.
Regarding academics, the biggest knock against BYU to the Pac is the lack of academic freedom accusations that have been made against the school by several prominent academic organizations.
