They can easily argue they have dominated the Cougars lately, so what else do they have to prove? They now consider themselves the big program in the state and there is no reason to risk losing to a non BCS team. The Utes now get to play 10 games against BCS teams every year and there is no reason for them to worry about BYU when playing an extra game against a lower division team doesn't affect their credibility in the least. Besides, damaging BYU's program can only serve to help them build their program. I don't like it, and I would love to continue playing them, but I understand why they are doing it.
The best thing for the Cougars to do is to WIN WIN WIN. We must beat them this Fall in order to have any credibility at all. If BYU doesn't step it up and prove something more than beating mediocre to poor teams, Utah's tactics just might work exactly the way they are hoping.
