Actually I'm saying that yes they have grown to larger amounts, but you'll

I don't think the Church is ever going to fund BYU Athletics. Here's why:

If the church funded sports, it wouldn't be for the fans.

It is always talked about like a missionary tool, if that is the point imo they
IceCreamButt

And call players on football missions? /s
BrutustheBrash
1/11/17 6:43pm
I could get behind that.
IceCreamButt

I don't think I'd complain if it happened

It's not the general authorities that typically say that, fans and others are

I agree with you.

I am a missionary tool.. where is my check?

Fortunately, everyone cares about BYU the school
BGRTHNUMEGO
1/11/17 6:35pm
they don't fund building cleaning
Cougarealist

No one's ever joined the church because of building cleaning

Some have left, however. According to Reddit. 😉

They could do it with funds from the investment arm
Gustav
1/11/17 6:41pm
They are paying GA's...why not fund some scholarships...85 or so
Bonoman
1/11/17 8:53pm
That wouldn't cause an uproar from certain feminist groups.

Not everyone cares about the U of U law school either...

Amen!

Still salty about this. The U of U?! Really?

I agree that they won't, but your reason is wrong.

That's what the for profit entitiees are for. We already pay the GAs
kotacoug
1/11/17 7:07pm
Where did the money to start the for profits come from originally? Invested
Polecat
1/11/17 7:16pm
Who cares? At some point decades ago it was probabaly donated.
kotacoug
1/11/17 7:18pm
Who cares? I don't know man, a law of god that requires people to fork over
Polecat
1/11/17 7:19pm
I'm not seeing your point...
kotacoug
1/11/17 7:28pm
Point being that saying it doesn't come from tithing is false. It all came from
Polecat

You're saying that funds that once were tithes always remain tithes even though they might later be invested.
mulletYno
1/11/17 7:45pm
I'm saying it's built on tithes. As in, the businesses wouldn't exist if it
Polecat
1/11/17 7:47pm
Are the economic factors in the areas of these businesses also tithes?

Obviously you're trying to show you're smarter than me in a business sense. I'm
Polecat

What if the tithing is given back to the Church after said businesses become self-sustaining?
mulletYno
1/11/17 7:56pm
All fine and well, it still doesn't change where it started from.
Polecat
1/11/17 7:57pm
Not our tithes, maybe the donations of your great grandad.
NewMexiCoug
1/11/17 8:53pm
how do you know?
Cougarealist
1/11/17 8:58pm
None of our tithes? You can say that with 100% certainty?
Polecat
1/11/17 9:38pm
Maybe but they also had tons of property and businesses they sold
Nat Gas Man
1/11/17 7:43pm
I'm curious where those properties and businesses came from to begin with?
Polecat
1/11/17 7:44pm
They owned everything in 1847 before tithing
Nat Gas Man
1/11/17 7:46pm
That organization was legally dissolved in 1887.
Polecat
1/11/17 7:49pm
But somehow they kept the hospitals etc
Nat Gas Man
1/11/17 7:51pm
Also tithing wasn't a requisite for temple blessings back then, like it is now.
Polecat
1/11/17 7:58pm
Technically you're probably wrong. Those funds were most likely donated to the

Yes but it's not tithing.... that's what everyone is getting there panties in a
kotacoug
1/11/17 7:47pm
there's no way that it's 100% not tithing. Some of it is, it has to be.

1/11/17 7:37pm
It's just that...where else would the money come from? It's a church...
Polecat
1/11/17 7:40pm
How about someone donating (outside from tithing) and authorizing the church to invest the funds in for profit business
CotoCoug
1/11/17 8:18pm
I'm sure that has happened as well.
Polecat
1/11/17 8:23pm
And, who owned the land in Utah before the Church arrived?
NewMexiCoug
1/11/17 8:44pm
Dang dude. I'm just saying some of it certainly comes from tithing. Some of it

From tithing though? If they fund it from tithing why did I knock on all those
Martin Van Nostrand
1/11/17 7:46pm
That is to pay the BSA executive salaries. Tithing pays for the local troops and

While sports (BYU sports) has been seen as a missionary tool for the Church, the Church does not exist to promote sports
