When the standard deduction was raised from 12k to 24k, the net impact to the state between that and the loss of exemptions was a net gain to the state of about $4M per year (which is statistically insignificant). That is not to say that on an individual basis it was not a huge change for certain families (including mine).
Specifically, families with many children were negatively impacted while those with less children were benefited. The tax package passed last year and later repealed due to public outcry largely adjusted that back. The people rejected it.
