The course was progressively in worse shape each time I played. When we played in June last year, there were probably 3 greens that were just about absolutely trashed. Big patches in the middle of the green, void of grass and just dirt. Just off the green, on a couple of the holes, there were large stretches of torn up turf. It hadn't rained for 2 days and several of the bunkers had puddles of standing water. Fairways were ripped apart in stretches as well.
After the round, I asked the pro shop guy what was going on. He said they've had a huge problem with feral pigs and they can't do a whole heck of a lot about it b/c of the State of Hawaii. We saw a sow on the course with like 8 piglets running around.
They have a hole on the back 9 either par 4 or par 5 that has a discrete elevated tee box on an umarked path that has some absolutely gorgeous views. The second time I played it, I got paired up with a local who showed it to me. Pretty cool.
I read the recent reviews on the course. Seems like management is letting it get run down. Gonna be over there in December but will probably skip it and go play Royal Hawaiian instead. The views aren't worth the price of putting on bare dirt.
