I think I average every 6 months. If I wait too long it gets really loud

I use ones that are rated for 6 months (supposedly) so I change them every

I also swap out my smoke detector batteries once a year - over conference

Don't smoke detectors tell you when the battery is low (usually at 3 am)

I buy the cheap filter that says 3 months, and then change them once a month.
