I think I average every 6 months. If I wait too long it gets really loud

Every 6 months. Right before AC season and right before furnace season. There is enough dust I should probably do it

I also swap out my smoke detector batteries once a year - over conference

Don't smoke detectors tell you when the battery is low (usually at 3 am)
