This isn’t fixing the underlying problems, and I’m not an expert in any of this. I watched a long video that outlined the many issues with the supply chain. They said the problem at the ports is those empty containers because we’re not shipping stuff back across the Pacific. It’s not financially feasible to ship empty containers back to China. China would rather make more containers.
Another issue with truckers (IIRC) is that with CA’s crackdown on gig economy workers, only truckers that are part of a larger company can pick up these containers from the ports, and independent truckers just stay out of CA. I might be remembering that wrong. So if the government is going to do fixes to resolve this situation, that’s an easy one.
The video listed like a dozen other areas in which the supply chain has broken down. This is not a simple problem and it’s not one that we have the power to fix entirely.
