Work or struggle to achieve anything. Most self made millionaires are the way they are because they overcame adversity. Yes money can help kids get a leg up if done the right way, but if everything all the time no matter what is getting paid for by Dad and Mom then research shows it saps the kids of ambition and work ethic. Makes sense.

For example you said that one of the benefits would be that you could help your kids start a business with the money. But if it's Daddy's money and they don't have skin in the game, how well thought out do you think their business plan is going to be? How thorough are they going to be in researching the market, their competitors? How carefully will they interview employees or will they just hire friends? Are they going to be tempted to cut corners because it doesn't matter to them?

There are a lot of dangers of providing everything for your kids, even if you are just subsidizing it. They need to learn to stand on their own two feet, and yes struggle at times. There are massive benefits of struggling and overcoming that struggle. It doesn't mean that you never give of your kids anything. It means that you don't subsidize their whole life and sap them of ambition and drive.
