Even if they did, I'm not sure how relevant that was. The issue was Oklahoma and Washington
And neither would play BYU. Does playing a 6 win Michigan or 8 win Miami team move the needle differently? Probably not.

No, but Oklahoma did turn down the Holiday Bowl to play Washington in the Orange Bowl.

Washington beat Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. Washington had been #1 until losing to USC in Nov.

I thought it was Washington that turned it down. Oklahoma was contractually obligated to play in the Orange.
