It would be the equivalent of Staley winning the Doak Walker. Nobody ever thought a BYU RB could win that award. Nobody ever thought BYU could possibly land the level of athlete necessary to even be considered for that award, yet Staley did it.

Could you imagine Troy Warner showing well this year but getting injured and then winning the Jim Thorpe Award next year, and fans still arguing that Brian Gray or Omar Morgan were better than him? Those guys were good, All-Conference players. But not in the same league as a Thorpe winner.
