One thing I've always just assumed about Lavell was he was good at finding people who were good at their jobs (which he was) but mostly assumed he wasn't a great coach himself. Watching the show about Lavell yesterday made me realize that wasn't true. He was a very good coach as well.
Kalani is such a good person. I think he is also a good coach, but is just now finding people around him who are good at what they do. That alone shows growth, whether you believe he had a choice in Ty or not. Grimes was a great hire. Tuiaki was a good hire (Fight me on this one, but the defense has been good, and improving). Lamb was a good hire. Fesi has improved our WR dramatically. Right there we might have a few future head coaches. Kalani might be a fantastic coach, but one gets the feeling that his assistants are the brains behind the team-just like Lavell. That is an environment good will coaches want to work in. If Kalani was a boss, I would work for him.
I loved Bronco as a coach, but he was a poor evaluator of coaching talent-outside of a few exceptions. Whittingham feels the same as Bronco. Not sure I would want to work for Bronco and the micromanagement. 100% sure wouldn't work for Whittingham and his tantrums.
