It is a fact for me that BYU football is broken but...
and this is what cracks me up about most Utah fans, it's all self-inflicted by BYU/church leadership. If BYU wanted to pay more to get better coaching they could. If BYU/church leadership wanted the football program to be top 25 they could make it all possible. Utah, in fact, has basically been the recipient of BYU's reluctance to do what is necessary to compete at a higher level. If BYU wasn't a religious school they would have been in a major conference many years ago. Once BYU got serious about enforcing the honor code, it was only a matter of time that Utah would find its way to become the better program.

Personally, I think BYU football as we know it has an expiration date. Extending Kalani et al is all the proof I need to know how BYU feels about the program and how it sees the future. As long as BYU is bowl eligible and there are no major scandals, things will stay as they are. Despite not having a great season in over a decade, BYU still has the second highest attendance in the west. That in itself says a lot about both the loyalty of BYU fans but also perhaps why BYU doesn't feel the need to make any great changes. But I think this is pretty short-sighted. Once the boomers stop attending games, if the program continues its current arc, I think attendance numbers will eventually start to fall below Utah's. Again, it's only a matter of time.
