season is not an indication that it is a broken system. There are lots of good teams and BYU is still beating some of them.
With current schedules, I’d like to see BYU split with Utah, split or better against P5 teams, and beat the G5 teams. Most of the time that is 9-3 or 8-4 with hopes if a special year every few years.
For those that compare us to Utah, you need to look at the entire picture. Before this year, this is Utah’s Pac 12 record:
PAC 12 Era
2011 8-5 (4-5)
2012 5-7 (3-6) OOC loss to Utah St
2013 5-7 (2-7)
2014 9-4 (5-4)
2015 10-3 (6-3)
2016 9-4 (5-4)
2017 7-6 (3-6)
2018 9-5 (6-3)
It sort of mirrors a lot of P5 teams, some good years and some ok years. Outside of Bama, OSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, and maybe a couple of others, that is what it’s like. I don’t think losing 3-4-5 games a year with P5 schedules is any indication of a broken team; it’s just expectations that are out of whack....just look at Utah’s recent records.
