I mostly believe in the calories in and calories out approach, I just haver a
few minor questions.

1 - How do we account for the all too common "plateau" that seemingly everyone hits as they lose weight. How come you can be losing 2 pounds a week for a month and a half, then all of a sudden you stop losing any weight at all for awhile? It's not that the 2 lbs goes slowly to 1.75 lbs per week, then it goes to 1.5 lbs. It can just stop altogether for a couple weeks before turning back on. I've just never understood how that works.

2 - It is sort of funny to me that he does say that our bodies can adapt up to 20%, but he fails to recognize that 20% of 2000 calories is 400 calories. So if I am eating 1500 calories a day (assuming my body burns 2000 at the beginning) then I start off anticipating I should lose 1 lb a week (500 calorie deficit per day for 7 days a week is 3500 calories or 1 lb). However, if my body does adjust 20% my new deficit is only 100 calories per week, meaning I would have to maintain my 1500 calorie diet for 5 weeks just to lose 1 lb.

3 - I also don't know how I can have a friend of mine who eats and always has eaten significantly more than me, yet is skinny as can be. He can down a whole pizza and not gain a lb where I can have 3 slices and gain 2. I also don't know how you have those skinny guys at the gym talking about how hard it is for them to get their 4500 calories a day and how frustrated they are they aren't gaining weight. It just seams weird to me this is even possible based on the science of calories etc.

All that being said I do believe that consuming less than you burn is absolutely the way to lose weight and that many people far too often look for excuses to hide the fact that they just aren't. I do wish there was more consistent science for the entire industry. There is soooooo much info out there, whether it be things like "it's harder to lose weight if you drink diet soda", or "carbs or bad", or the "carbs are good", and every other conceivable belief that often counter each other.
