It was a check that belonged to one of the kid's parents. We were hanging at his house and his parents both worked nights, and we had no money and wanted to order a pizza. It was me who signed the check. When they found out they did get the police involved.
I had to go to the police station to answer questions, and I fully fessed up, feeling very stupid. As it turns out, the detective was the father of the kid my sister was dating at the time and he thought the world of her.
He said if I paid back the amount of the check, he'd close the case and I wouldn't end up before a judge.
I never even considered doing anything like that again, and he saved me unnecessary punishment. It's not always the best solution but sometimes it's absolutely the best solution. People don't forget things like that.
