It’s highly, very, highly, highly^2 that this isn’t the first item he’s stolen.
Keeping that in mind, if you don’t turn him in to “The Machine” I’d make it very clear that you know it’s not the first, but it better be the last. I’d take a Fargo Slang approach to this.
