Yes - there are elements of play calling when it comes to converting 3rd/4th and short. Fine - we all accept that.
But if you're objectively JUST looking at the ranking.
BYU ranked #128 out of 131 teams when it comes to getting a 1st down or touchdown when it is 3rd down or 4th down and 2 yards or less. This is ONLY running plays - meaning they didn't count the stats for any team that decided to pass it on 3rd/4th down and 2 yards or less - running plays only.
There is NO WAY that BYU should be #128 out of 131 teams when it comes to getting 2 yards on 3rd/4th down and short yardage. You can't blame it just on play calling at that point. All 131 teams are calling running plays - and BYU was worse than all but 3 of them. That's unacceptable.
