it's offset background is here to stay. They want it so that when people see that symbol, they know it's BYU. That's why no one has to worry about the block Y any more.
They said that in prior years, with all the changes, they didn't have the notion of branding BYU; consequently, multiple uniforms and variations of the Y. They now understand the power behind a brand symbol, and will be sticking with the current stuff.
That doesn't mean they couldn't do variations of the brand--like 3D as someone mentioned above.
