If there is a problem with Howell, I think it is likely with player confidence than his competence or preparation.

Bronco turned the 2010 defense around in 1 week, not with preparation and study, but with a good plan (because he's been around defense a long time) and "violent" execution by the players (because they trusted him).

I'm still not convinced there's anything Howell could do differently. The Dline doesn't seem to have the skill to pressuer the QB and the DB's seem to have the skill, but made mistakes.
