He's had the equivalent of a Heisman winner. Our recruiting is at one of it's historical highest points ever.

He doesn't choke in in-state rivalry games (yes we lost last year. For the 2nd time in 13 games).

He has taken us to a Sweet 16, which is in fact the basketball equivalent of an NY6 Bowl. There are 350 basketball schools, and 3 other leagues that would qualify as P5 if such a distinction existed in basketball. Those 3 leagues are the Big East, the American, and the A-10. There are also many other "major" schools like Wichita State, Gonzaga, BYU, UNLV, SDSU, etc. There are 128 FCS football schools. A Sweet 16 is easily the mathematical equivalent of a NY6.

BYU has a Top 10 finish under Rose, which considering the increased depth of the field, is closer to a Top 5 finish. But either way you look at it, under Dave Rose, we have our only Top 10 finish in a major sport since 1996 Football.

Dave Rose is a great ambassador for the Church by being a great guy and a great coach. Frankly, I am one that appreciates the LDS perspective on BYU sports, and I admire Broncos openness about it. But, there is some weirdness to it with him that I can't put my finger on. Whatever it is, it annoys a lot of people.

He likes the fans. He doesn't give them reasons to think he doesn't like them.

Going back to the numbers: BYU has made the NCAA Tournament 7 times in Dave Rose's 9 seasons. That's top 64 (or 68) out of 350, and every league champion gets an auto berth. I think many BYU fans have just come to expect this. One of the seasons we missed out, BYU went to the NIT Final 4. The other we lost in the first round of the NIT.

The fact that Football is simply much bigger for most BYU fans (and most of the nation as well) clouds some peoples judgment. Dave Rose has been far better on the court (or field) than Bronco Mendenhall.
