My brother plays safety and receiver (or "played" now) for American Fork, and I've been watching him play with this same group of kids since 5th grade. They had three consecutive undefeated seasons at one point, and now watching them all play as seniors they were able to have a lot of success again. All these kids grew up playing together, and all of them were from American Fork. It truly was a "home-grown" team, and is the ideal of what high school football SHOULD be. Then you have programs like Bingham and Timpview, and they attract players to move into their areas (both in-state moves and out-of-state moves) to play football for them. Sure I'm bummed to watch my brother lose and see this AF squad play their last game together, but it just doesn't feel like high school football is really a level playing field.
