Here are two realities:

1. BYU isn't in a conference so it doesn't have bowl tie-ins
2. Besides the CFP and the New Year's Bowls, nobody gives a rip about bowl games, but they do want to see good matchups.

With those two realities, the philosophy is: Try and get into a bowl vs. a solid conference to get a good opponent. Try to get into a bowl that is a nice destination for fans.

I would say matching up with the best of the AAC is pretty good, and Miami is solid.
