It isn't just the strict 3 point shooting percentage that hurts BYU, it is the possessions they give up by shooting a lower percentage shot early in the clock.
Not only are they less likely to make the basket, they are less likely to get to the free throw line on the missed shot as well.
A missed 3 early in the shot clock costs far more than a simple shooting percentage stat will reveal.
