I called last month to cancel my Comcast internet because I switched to Vivint. I cancelled part way through the billing cycle, so I figured I would owe a prorated amount smaller than my normal bill. Friday I got a bill from Comcast telling me I still owed the FULL amount for last month, and I also owe for the next month.
I called Comcast, "Oh, yeah that's not right, you only owe the balance from last month of $35.40" (the prorated amount, as I expected). After questioning him further, "is this a mistake?" with no real explanation of the bill, he said I will be getting a NEW bill in about 2 weeks with the real amount I owe.
So, why did they send me this bill, including a NEW month, a full 3 weeks after I canceled? Is their system that messed up? They had me in their system as canceling on the correct date.
My cynical guess: they send out this bill hoping people won't pay attention, and will just pay the bill. Conspiracy theories aside, that's pretty crappy service. And that kind of service is one of the reasons I've hated Comcast.
