I'd go for a prime
The optics are simpler and they tend to be sharper than zooms. If you look at the f1.8 models they are relatively well priced.
The 50mm is cheap and the 35mm and 28mm are under $600.
Just a heads up if you don't know - the sensor on your camera is not full frame. There is a 1.4x multiplier on all lenses. So 50mm is actually equivalent to 70mm.
