But there is no way TCU or Utah get invited from the MWC without those BCS games. BYU has none, and while it's not the only reason BYU isn't P5, it's a big reason.
Boise State is hampered by its remote location, its small market, its short history of success, its poor academics, and its weaknesses in other schools.
SMU brings the same things to the table as TCU, except for a winning program.
