The NCAA calculates strength of schedule by using the winning percentage of this year's opponents from the previous season. FCS and FBS transition teams are not included. By that reasoning, a 2-10 FBS team is going to destroy your strength of schedule, whereas as an FCS team has no direct impact on your schedule except if it takes the place of a strong team in the case of a last minute schedule change.
