My five best players regardless of position
1. Michael Jordan
2. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
3. Lebron James
4. Hakeem Olajuwon
5. Tim Duncan

Most notable ommissions:
Bill Russell: Great player who won a ton of titles, but was below average offensively. 15 ppg on 44% shooting (56% ft shooting) are below Rik Smits level. I believe everyone else on this list was a more complete player. I would love to have Russell on my team, but to me he is more like a Rodman deluxe. He was surrounded by Hall of Famers and played with tons of them. The 1957-58 team had 5 HOFs other than Russell. It is also much easier to win multiple championships when there are 8-9 teams than when there are 30.

Wilt Chamberlain: Hard to leave off the list, but only won one title as the alpha dog despite playing with multiple Hall-of-Famers. In his 2nd title he was the 4th leading scorer playing with names like West, Baylor, Goodrich and McMillian. That team was stacked. Even when he won his first title he played with 3 Hall-Of-Famers in Cunningham, Walker and Greer. He averaged 24 ppg that year.

Larry Bird: His stats don't tell the whole story as he could have put up bigger stats if that is what his team needed. Incredible shooter that I don't believe contributes quite as much to team winning as Lebron... although it is closer than you would think.

My Criteria: Rating All-Time Players is difficult as you have to figure out whether to use stats, awards, titles...etc. To me stats certainly don't tell the whole story as Chamberlain started winning titles when his stats went down. Oscar Robertson had some incredible stats, but rarely even made the playoffs when greater than 50% of the league did. Certainly teammates play a role in that, but the guys on the top of this list I believe make the playoffs regardless of who they are playing with. So while I use many different attributes including the dreaded eye test, the biggest single factor for me is being the alpha dog on a championship team. When playing against the best being so dominant that your team wins the title.
