I would argue they are less nerdy...or at least more involved.
As more and more people try to get in, grades and ACT scores keep rising, but they can only go so high. In the past, a good GPA and decent ACT score almost assured you entrance. Everybody has those now.
Now, you need more extracurricular activities to help you stand out; which means this generation of students is likely the most well rounded BYU has ever had.
