My own experience is a long story so I'll have to keep it to the main points.
I went to a sleep doc. He sent me to a sleep lab (which he and some other docs own) for the overnight study. Result was I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Since I could not sleep all hooked up like that I don't know how anything accurate could be measured.
But I didn't disagree that I do have sleep apnea, I already knew that. I had breathing problems especially when sleeping. Earlier sports injuries probably contributed to that. I even had a previous operation to clear breathing passages but that didn't completely fix the problem.
So I got the CPAP. Tried to give it a fair chance but I just hated the thing. It wasn't for me. As I've stated, although some responders can't read, I know people who are happy with the CPAP. I don't know how they do it but if it works for them, great. It doesn't work for me. And I know of many others who have tried it and can't use it either. So it's not for everyone.
I went back to the sleep doc and told him I hated the CPAP. He insisted I could adapt to it and it was just finding the right mask or whatever. It wasn't the mask but I couldn't make him understand. I tried to ask about other alternatives but he wouldn't even talk about them.
So I went to the internet to find alternatives. There are some so I tried them. Through trial and error, I finally found what works for me. I can't really explain it in words and I don't know if it would work for others or not. But now I sleep just fine without snoring.
I encourage people to find a fix for their sleep/snoring problems. There are health risks if not fixed. CPAP obviously works for some people. But not everyone.
