careful. If you use the word "recruit" around a DLS supporter you're in for
a stern talking to. They can't help it if all the good players want to come to DLS and they are set up with a job putting the chairs away in the cafeteria after lunch that happens to cover the exorbitant tuition fees.

I'm guessing it was about a decade ago that a DLS graduate earned a full ride to a D1 school (memory is failing, but I believe it was Washington or Oregon). The DLS faculty and supporters rallied around this great athlete and claimed him as their own, touting his accomplishments on the field and his great citizenship off the field. He was a graduate of THE De La Salle high school.

He couldn't claim his full ride scholarship because he couldn't meet the NCAA minimum academic requirements. A DLS GRADUATE. This was many years ago, and the requirements now are higher, but today the requirements are if you had a 2.5 in high school you'd need to get the sum of 68 points on the ACT. That's out of 4 sections, so you'd have to score an average of 17 on each section to qualify. The NCAA minimums are not difficult, and were easier back then. So much for the great academics at DLS, and although the player helped DLS on the field, DLS clearly failed the athlete in the classroom.

This was an embarrassment to DLS, as you can imagine. It was soon after this that there was a change in the administration and the manner in which they "attracted" athletes.

I never claimed they didn't "recruit", my point is that their focus has been adjusted to some degree.
