Demeanor is only part of it...
But your apparent assumption that it is going to be automatically acrimonious I'm not buying into. There was very little acrimony from the mwc when utah and TCU left although there was plenty when BYU left. The truth is the acc has no real power compared to the big12 but they do have a little bit of bargaining position based on their exit contracts with their teams. But they know that if those teams want to go then they'll go regardless of anything they try to do. So why not try to bargain? It is the smart thing to do, see what you can get and there is no need to be obstinate about it right up front for either party.

Maybe all they wind up with after trying to bargain are the exit fees, but maybe they can get some football and basketball games out of the deal which can potentially be more lucrative than the exit fees. I can see where that would benefit the big12 as well, instead of having to pay big fees maybe they can save some $ buy paying smaller fees plus playing some games, they have to play games against someone anyway so if they save 5mil from the fees but then play some games they still make money and the schools in the AAC potentially make more than the full fees would have provided each of them.

I don't know all the numbers but the point is that when something is inevitable, and you a can be assured that any G5 team that gets an invite from the big12 is inevitably leaving where they are currently at, then smart men will see opportunity.
