Whether this leads to more effectiveness, I don't know. It is always good to have differences of ideas, personalities, and backgrounds to avoid "group think." (yes, it also has its downsides)
I think for football and other sports, having the efficiency is more important because so many decisions during game time are split second. That is, you don't have time to debate. Yes, you can during a timeout, but that is the exception, not the rule.
