Not grades...
I left with horrendous grades. Basically failed out. Came back years later and they said no problem, but you have to meet with a counselor and be under academic "probation."
I am sure he would have the same option. I wasn't special in any way. There has to be more to the story. He wants a scholarship or he isn't honor code compliant etc.

When I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008, BYU would only allow me to defer my enrollment for 2 semesters.
