Took my son and some young men to this area last July. Had done some backpacking previously in the area in 2014 with my oldest son. Not too many people. Plenty of water. Good fishing and scenery was outstanding with lots of upper alpine lakes. No 14ers though. We made it into a loop, so very little backtracking and no need for 2nd vehicle. Minimum route is about 25 miles with spurs that would up the mileage well beyond that. We went about 30. Access to trailhead is well maintained dirt road. I'm sure I'll take my youngest son there in a few years too.
Here are a couple helpful links. Trail descriptions are pretty accurate.
