It was a great play simply that they connected on a length of the court pass, then made a shot.
If he had been fouled on the shot, they would have gone to the line to tie.
Obviously not the easiest way to win, but it was within the realm of possibility.

The cheering didn't even last 8 seconds. It's obvious they knew they had lost within seconds after the shot was made.
