The greatest tribute performance

I loved the Prince solo. I also love Tom Pretty and the Traveling W's (Jeff Lynne was also on stage), but why not have Clapton instead of Prince? I thought the whole reason for having Clapton on lead guitar for the original recording was George asked him to do it as a favor from a friend?
